Rosamond “Rose” Gates

Rosamond “Rose” Gates, 91, Mitchell, died Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday, July 7 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Thursday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Rosamond Mae Gates was born May 29, 1926 at Clark, SD to William and Ruth (Rudd) Calley. During WWII she worked for the government in the ammunitions plant. On August 1, 1947 she married Clifford D. Gates. Rose was employed at Thune’s Hardware in Mitchell for many years.

She is survived by her four children: Rita Conklin of Des Moines, IA, David (Marian) Gates of Rapid City, Thomas (Rita) Gates of Mitchell, Diane Cooley and partner, Charles Molnar of Phoenix, AZ, three sisters: Noreen (Wally) Wieczorek of Mitchell, Eloise (Lyle) Moser of Minneapolis, MN, Emily (Jim) Hauan of Minneapolis, MN, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford in January 1997, two brothers: Leonard and Edwin DeJong and son-in-law, Jimmy Conklin.

Even though I didn't know Rose personally, I almost feel like I do from listening to Dave and Marian share their memories of her. I know of her love for Jesus and her family. May she rest in peace.
