William (Bill) Roger Dodds was born November 14, 1945, in Plankinton, SD, to Merle and Clara Dodds. He graduated from White Lake High School in 1963 and attended Southern State College in Springfield, SD, where he acquired a degree in music education. It was there he met his future wife, Linda Larson. They married on June 10, 1967, and began their teaching careers in Howard, SD.
In 1969 they moved to Ida Grove, IA, where he taught vocal music and was the activities director for the local high school. From 1972-1974 he taught in Scotland, SD. After that school year, the farm boy in Bill drew him back to his hometown of White Lake to become a farmer on his parental farmland, where he raised cattle and crops. During this career transition, he also worked for Wayne (Pete) Glissendorf as one of his hired hands. Later, he also worked at the State Training School in Plankinton, the Chamberlain Academy, and as the substitute mail carrier before transitioning to the full-time carrier position out of the Pukwana post office, where he worked until his death.
He was always an avid sports fan and history buff, loved music and sang for numerous weddings and funerals. Bill was an active member of the United Methodist/Presbyterian Church. He took pride in establishing his yard and landscaping upon the completion of the addition to the family home in 2009.
His family, children, and grandchildren were the lights of his life.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Clara, and his stepfather, Glenn Evans.
He is survived by his wife Linda; son Brent (Shannan) and their two children Brock and Tori, Chaska, MN; daughter Ellen, St. Paul, MN; his three brothers, Wayne, Jim, and Joe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
