Shirley Maxine Scheetz

January 18, 1930 - March 4, 2017

Shirley Maxine Scheetz was born January 18, 1930 to Henry and Helen (Wesendorf) Gardner in Plankinton SD.  She married Art Scheetz on February 26, 1950 in Crystal Lake.  She cooked in the cafes in Stickney for many years.  She was head cook at Stickney School and then managed the Legion Cafe.  Shirley was most remembered for her peanut and carmel rolls and her potato salad – we often wonder how many pounds of potatoes she boiled and peeled.  She enjoyed crafting and made flowers for many weddings.  She enjoyed baking wedding, birthday and anniversary cakes.  She also enjoyed visiting with her many friends over coffee and goodies.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stickney and then the Resurrection Lutheran Church, Mitchell.

She is survived by two daughters:  Sharon DeBoer of Stickney and LeAnn (Dave) Lauer of Rapid City; 3 grandchildren: Jeff (Mary) DeBoer of Scotland, Chuck (Ayrica) DeBoer of Castlewood, Calvin (Angela) DeBoer of Corsica, 11 great-grandchildren; one sister:  Betty Kristensen of Mitchell; brother, Jack (Sharon) Gardner of White Lake; three sisters-in-law:  Marcella Scheetz, Carrie Badker both of Mitchell, Evelyn Reinfeld of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; parents, Henry and Helen Gardner and son-in-law, Jim DeBoer.

So sorry about the death of your mom. She was a wonderful person who lived a good life and blessed many people. She was so good to my folks. Almost every Sunday they would be together. Celebrate her life and her faith and thank God for her.

Sharon and LeAnn. We also are so saddened by your loss. Aunt Shirley was always so cheerful and smiling. We loved all the wonderful cakes she made for Florence and Oscars anniversaries. We will remember her with love and may your memories sustain you.

Sharon and LeAnn, We are saddened to hear of your mother's passing. She was a good friend to my mother and always fun to be with. May you find comfort knowing she has joined Art and the angels.
