April 24, 1942 - December 20, 2016

Mary Jo Connor (formerly Roidt), 74, most recently of Elkins, WV and Uniontown, PA died peacefully on December 20 surrounded by family members after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Mary Jo was born April 24, 1964 in Uniontown, PA to Edward Wilmont Connor and Louise Shelby Connor. She graduated from Uniontown High School in 1959.  Following her graduation, she moved to Pittsburgh, PA where she worked for several years at Horne’s department store.

She married in 1964, and she and her family settled in the Pittsburgh suburb of Penn Hills, prior to moving to Oakmont, PA in 1977.  Mary Jo was a loving mother to her two sons, an avid painter, and volunteer in a variety of organizations including the Forbes Elementary School PTA, the Mount Hope Presbyterian Church, the Oakmont United Presbyterian Church, and Meals on Wheels.  In 1987 Mary Jo enrolled at the Community College of Allegheny County where she earned her associate degree and then at Carlow College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communication.  Following her graduation from Carlow, Mary Jo struck out on a midlife adventure, living in Ashland, OR for several years before moving to Morgantown, WV and, eventually, returning to Uniontown, PA.  During this period of her life she wrote poetry, attended a wide variety of cultural and artistic events, and collected art.

Mary Jo loved her grandchildren and participated extensively in their lives.  She was a lifelong dog lover who pampered a long line of canine companions.

She is survived by a sister, Connie (Connor) Buchko of Dunnelon, FL; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Vickie Roidt of Mitchell, SD; her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Roidt and Tara Weidner of Portland, OR; two grandchildren: Kelly Roidt of Monterey, CA and Andrew Roidt of Alliance, OH; and life-long friend Cindy Jones, of Uniontown, PA.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Michael, and her sister Patti (Connor) Kothmann.

Our hearts are saddened by your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
May God give you comfort from His Holy Word, the Bible. “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.” Isaiah 25:8 and “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4
