Carroll Marvin Hunstad was born July 19, 1927 in Aberdeen, SD to Engvald and Mabel (Severson) Hunstad. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1945. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Navy, serving for nine years during WWII and the Korean War. In 1954 he returned to Aberdeen and began his employment with Woodman Refrigeration and during this time he organized and served as a charter member of the Aberdeen Regional Refrigeration Engineers Society. He was employed by the US Postal Service for several years. On September 3, 1955 he married Avis Gossmann. In June 1975 Carroll moved his family to Mitchell where he accepted the position as the first instructor, setting up the curriculum, for the Heating and Air Conditioning Program at Mitchell Technical Institute. He served as the department head until his retirement in 1992.
Carroll and Avis enjoyed spending several winters in Arizona. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker and enjoyed reading and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he served as Lay Minister, Eucharistic Minister and was a Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 61 years, Avis; son, Tom (Paula) Hunstad of Marshall, MN, daughter, Mary (Peter) O’Konski of Manassas, VA, daughter-in-law, Susan Hunstad of Minnetonka, MN, brother, William Hunstad of Verona, WI, six grandchildren, four great granddaughters and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bob and wife, Sandy, sister-in-law, Corrine and son, Tim.
