Bernita LaBreche Hinker

June 23, 1926 - September 29, 2016

Bernita LaBreche Hinker was born June 23, 1926, in Mitchell, SD to Guy and Edna (Rubert) LaBreche.  She graduated from Forestburg High School in 1944.  On July 25, 1944, she married William Hinker at St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Church in Woonsocket.  To this union eight children were born.  They farmed in Sanborn County all of their life. They retired to Mitchell in 2013 and were residents of Avera Brady Health and Rehab.

Bernita was a member of Silver Creek Township Board, Forestburg Improvement Association, Election Board, St. Francis Circle, Sanborn County Extension Club and supporter of Sanborn County 4-H. She was also a member of St. Wilfrid’s Catholic Church.

Bernita will be remembered for helping raise many acres of melons and maintaining the melon stands.  She loved sewing and crafts. She worked at Ruskin Park and also took the Forestburg senior class on skip day to the Black Hills.  She helped whip up a ton of potato salad. She always loved having chickens and fresh eggs.

Grateful for sharing her life are her five children: Melanie (David) Blevins, Denver, CO; Leonard (Nancy) Hinker, Fedora, SD; Cathy (James) Hegg, Huron, SD; Roger (Pat) Hinker,  Forestburg; SD, and Mark (Carol) Hinker, Mitchell, SD; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Marie Rankin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Edna LaBreche, husband William, two sons, Anthony and Lee, and one daughter, Beverly.

LOSS... so sudden. broken.
In the wake of such a loss, we're haunted by things we don't - and
may never - understand. Yet the solace we seek may not come from
answers. So we look for comfort, in the belief of love's everlasting
connection. May that love lift you, hold you close, and give you
