Vernon Luther Hegwood was born February 11, 1930 in Lycan, CO to Martin and Ethel (Ingersoll) Hegwood. On July 30, 1948 he married Helen Robertson in Benton City, WA. In April 1967 they moved to Mitchell where Vernon was a self employed carpenter, building 99 new homes in Mitchell. In his later years he was employed by the City of Mitchell until retiring. After retirement he worked for Muth Properties. He was a longtime member of the Faith Missionary Church and served on the board of the Mitchell Area Adjustment Training Center.
He is survived by Helen, his wife of 68 years; four children: Susan (Keith) Hunt of Oelrichs, SD, Sharon (Andrew) McVey of Shoals, IN and Donald and Ronald Hegwood of Mitchell; daughter-in-law, Miriam Hegwood of Culbertson, NE; 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Milton (Florence) Hegwood of Culbertson, NE, John (Marsha) Hegwood of Gering, NE; two sisters: Grace (James) Fulton of Westfield, IN and Laurel Wilson of Cleveland, MO.
He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond, a brother, Calvin, a sister, Carol Mae and a brother-in-law, Irvin Wilson.
