Lee Joseph Hinker

March 4, 1958 - April 7, 2016

Lee Joseph Hinker was born on March 4, 1958 to William and Bernita (LaBreche) Hinker at Wessington Springs, SD.  He graduated from Forestburg High School in 1976.  He attended Mitchell Vo-Tech and graduated from the H-VAC program.

On August 3, 1985 he married Janet Authier.  To this union one son, Drew M. Hinker, was born.  He farmed with his father and mother.  They raised melons and Lee established a melon stand in Aberdeen, where he was well known for fresh produce, especially pumpkins.  He often provided free pumpkins to the schools in Aberdeen.  He always enjoyed being around people, especially family and friends.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Drew Hinker, Woonsocket, SD; his mother, Bernita Hinker, Mitchell, SD; two sisters, Melanie (Dave) Blevins, Denver, CO, Cathy (James) Hegg, Huron, SD; three brothers: Leonard (Nancy) Hinker, Fedora, SD, Roger (Pat) Hinker, Forestburg, SD, and Mark (Carol) Hinker, Mitchell, SD.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Hinker, a sister, Beverly Hinker and a brother, Anthony Hinker.

We were so sorry when we heard Sunday night that Lee had passed away. He was a great guy and a good friend to Matt. Lee was always generous with sending melons and pumpkins home for our kids after Matt would help him at the melon stand in Aberdeen. Our kids have great memories of going to pick out their pumpkin. Lee would always have them help unload melons and pumpkins and their reward was to take one or two home. He had a kind heart under that sometimes rough exterior. Our thoughts and prayers to Bernita and all of Lee's family. May God comfort you in your sorrow.
