Ross Wayne Wright

November 15, 1930 - March 25, 2016

Ross Wayne Wright was born November 15, 1930 in Perry, IA to Wayne and Cora (Bryan) Wright. He attended high school in Panora, IA. In 1948 he worked for the Maytag Company in Newton, IA. Ross moved to Mitchell, SD in the spring of 1950 and worked for a company setting high line poles in the area.

On November 30, 1956 Ross married Donna Wieczorek Scott in Sioux Falls, SD. In November of 1950 he began working for George A. Hormel & Company. While living in Mitchell, he also owned and operated a gravel truck part time. He continued to work at Hormel Foods in Mitchell until the plant closed in 1979. He then transferred to the plant in Fremont, NE. Ross retired in June of 1996 after forty-six years with Hormel Foods. Thereafter he returned to Mitchell and worked at K-Mart part time for twelve years until his health kept him at home.

Ross was a fifty-seven year member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Elks Club for many years. In his spare time he liked fishing, deer hunting, and spending time with family and friends. Watching Jim play basketball brought him much happiness. Additionally, he enjoyed Darin’s musical activities and Julie’s beautiful sewing creations and quilts.

Ross is survived by his wife, two children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; son, Jim (Susan) Wright of Highlands Ranch, CO and grandsons: Daniel Wright and Tyler Wright and great grandchildren: Violet and James Beaumont Wright; son, Darin (Janice) Wright of Omaha, NE and granddaughters: Kelsey Wright and Kayla Wright; step daughter, Julie Scott of Rapid City and grandsons: Matthew Olson and Andrew Olson; twin sister, Rose Hupp of Scranton, IA, and two sisters-in-law, Donna Wieczorek of Mitchell and Barbara Christopher of Rapid City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dean Wieczorek and his half-sister, Alice Dethlefson and two brothers-in-law, Owen Christopher and Don Wieczorek and son, Wayne Wright.
