Gordon Lyle Osterloo was born May 24, 1936 in Hanson County to George and Tena (Schroeder) Osterloo. He grew up on the family farm six miles south of Alexandria and graduated from Emery High School in 1955. In February 1956 he joined the US Army. On October 26, 1959 he married Lila Hillard in Emery and then moved to Mitchell where they made their home. Gordy was employed as a TV Technician until retiring in 2006. He was an avid golfer and bowler.
He is survived by Lila, his wife of 56 years, eight children: Julie (Loren) VanOverschelde, Mitchell, Steve (Delores) Osterloo, Sioux Falls, Barb Grohs, Mitchell, Carolyn (Chris) Matheson, Sioux Falls, Randal (Allison) Osterloo, Sioux Falls, Diane (Andy) Van Deun, Lincoln, NE, Jen (Ryan) Shawd, Watertown, Katie (Jeremy) Morrison, Mitchell; 18 grandchildren: Lacey (Matt) Hayes, Beau VanOverschelde, Alex (Shelby) VanOverschelde, Alyssa Osterloo and fiancé, Kyle Baier, Carly Osterloo, Drew Grohs, Derek (Melinda) Grohs, Randi Grohs, Zoe Matheson, Macy Matheson, Sam Matheson, Evy Osterloo, Jack Osterloo, George Osterloo, Noah Shawd, Isaac Shawd, Everett Morrison, Lyla Morrison; four great grandchildren: Will Hayes, Avonell Hayes, Lucas Grohs and Baby VanOverschelde due December 10, 2015; two sisters-in-law: Betty Osterloo, Mitchell and Barbara Osterloo, Ames, IA.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Byron and Gerald.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Mitchell Foundation for Catholic Education
and John Paul II Elementary School.
