Virgil Anthony Schulte


June 25, 1927 - July 28, 2015


Virgil Anthony Schulte was born June 25, 1927 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mitchell to John and Clementine (Stallman) Schulte.  He graduated from St. Martin’s Catholic School in Emery.  He served in the US Army at the end of World War II.  On January 15, 1951 Virgil married Marjorie Ruden.  They farmed in the Emery area for many years.  Virgil was a long time school bus driver and also served as a custodian at St. Martin’s Church.  In his retirement he and Margie spent many summers traveling across the country in their motor home.  Virgil was a devout Catholic who lived his faith on a daily basis and passed it onto his children. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, where he sang in the choir, was a Eucharistic minister and a lector.  He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and a member of the National Farmers Organization.

His legacy includes, his loving wife of 64 years, Margie and his eight children:  Tom (Carol) Schulte, Sioux Falls SD, Mary (Mitch) Wilcox, Emery SD, Terry Schulte, Emery SD, Jane (Jay) Narverud, Burnsville MN, Jon (Nancy) Schulte, Sioux Falls SD, Christi (Kevin) Schnabel, Emery SD, Dan (Sarah) Schulte, Brookings SD and Joe (Mary) Schulte, Brookings SD; 37 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren along with many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings and their spouses and 2 grandchildren.


Memorials or Mass intentions are requested in lieu of flowers.

J.M.J. Dear Christi and Family, I was saddened to hear of the passing of +Virgil. May he rest in peace. I will offer the Holy Mass for his Soul's happy repose. May Jesus and Mary bless the Family of +Virgil and all who mourn his departure from this earth.

Great Uncle Virgil was of the most kind hearted souls I have ever met. I have such happy memories visiting them with Grandma. My heart and prayers r with Tom, Mary, Terry, Jane, Jon, Christi, Dan and Joe and their families. I hope it gives u some comfort knowing he is in a far better place....Gods loving hands!
