Leslie John Johnson was born January 15, 1926, near Bijou Hills, SD, to Edna Woodraski and Jasper Johnson. He grew up in Kimball, SD until he was drafted into the navy in 1944. Following the navy he moved to Mitchell where he met his wife Esther and they were married on July 11, 1947. He worked for many years as a journeyman electrician; he then worked for 7 years at Intercounty Electric, followed by 15 years as a teacher at the Mitchell Area Vocational Technical School. He was a charter member of the Northridge Baptist Church where over the years he attended with his wife and children, served as a deacon, taught Sunday School and helped wire the church.
He is survived by his four children: Rich Johnson and wife, Lori of Yuma, AZ; Daniel Johnson and wife, Lavonne of Cedar Rapids, IA; Yvonne Otten and husband, Kim of Sioux Falls, SD; David Johnson and wife, Connie of Fairbanks, AK; 15 grandchildren; and a growing host of great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchild; one sister, Shirley Davidson and husband, James of Ogema, MN.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Esther Faye, his parents, his brother, Gene, his sister, Alice, an infant child, and four infant grandchildren.
