Maxine Leona Younie

October 15, 1924 - March 24, 2015

Maxine Leona Phinney Younie was born on October 15, 1924 to Paul and Leona (Shreves) Phinney.  She grew up on a little farm in Alpena SD.

Many would say compassionate, caretaker, positive attitude, patient, and encourager were characteristics of Maxine. She loved family and she cooked alot of Sunday dinners in her tiny kitchen. Holidays were always about family.

When Maxine graduated from Letcher High School she moved to Mitchell and went to work for the Airplane factory making airplane parts at the end of WWII. She was one of many Women Working for the War.  She later worked at Blue Bell IGA Grocery. She met Dwight Younie while roller skating and on September 14, 1947 they were married.

Dwight and Maxine were in love for 58 years. They shared many laughs and tears and enjoyed their adventure together. In their love for each other, they worked hard to love and serve the Lord.  They enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, camping, and Saturday morning coffee with longtime friends. Maxine worked at Bennett’s Market for several years, enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, and was active in the church, bible studies and Eastern Star.  Tuesday morning coffee was the highlight of her week.

Maxine and Dwight had five children:  Barbara (Toby) Miller, Scottsbluff NE, David (Sheri) Younie, Denver CO, Linda (John) McLeod, Mitchell, SD, Connie (David) Deinert, Mt Vernon, SD, Cathy (Jeff) Lind, Circle Pines, MN; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great- grandchildren, three more on the way and a great-great-granddaughter.

She is survived by her brother, Ken (Shirley) Phinney, sister in law, Ardis Jane (VerMayne) Bringelson, and Eunice (Ed) Fielder and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dwight (2005), brothers: Morton, Norman, twin brother, Mervin, and sister in law, Inice Younie Juul.

Linda sorry for you and your family's loss. Losing a parent at any age is always hard. You'll have her memory with you all the time. Good luck and very sorry.

Mom LeAnne and I visited Maxine a year or so ago in her apt. at Brady. She was always such a sweet lady, whom I am sure will be missed by all who knew her. I pray that God wraps you in his love and grants you comfort.
