Marilyn Adale Hanten

September 22, 1950 - February 8, 2015

Marilyn Adale Hanten was born September 22, 1950, in Mitchell, SD, to Ralph Jr. and Ilene (Miller) Moore.  She grew up and attended schools in Mitchell and was the 2nd oldest of 9 children. On May 1, 1969, she married Eugene Hanten in Mitchell.

Marilyn’s love for her work as a hairstylist was very apparent. At an early age she sold wigs out of her mother’s salon and she knew a move to Billings, Montana to attend Acme Beauty College was a must. When she finished school she moved back to Mitchell where she began her career. She worked alongside her mother for 6 years before opening her first salon at the age of 26, and had multiple locations of the same great salon over the past 39 years. Marilyn always had a smile and a hello for everyone who came into the salon. She had a way to make each person look fabulous and feel special, and for that we thank her.

Marilyn not only loved her work, she also enjoyed her weekly bowling and spending many days fishing with Gene, while enjoying their cabin in Pierre. The door to her home was always open to any family and friends that may stop by and enjoy her wonderful cooking and hospitality.

Marilyn was a member of the Moose Lodge, lifetime member of the Women’s Bowling Association and the National Bowling Association. She was a member of the National Cosmetology Association and had her teacher of cosmetology license from 1978-1989.

She is survived by her husband Gene, three children: Todd (Michele) Hanten, Mitchell; Shelly (Matt) Demmers, Rapid City; Kristina (Chad) Blindauer, Mitchell; her mother, Ilene Brookbank, Mitchell, 8 grandchildren: Todd Jr. (Jen), Levi (Brianna), Wyatt, Taylor, Alli, Alexis, Kane, and Devin, 2 great grandchildren: Gage and Haven, 2 step great grandchildren, Austin and Jehreva, 8 brothers and sisters: Teresa (Ricky) Hyatt, Centre, AL; Debra (Tommy) Boyd, Deatsville, AL; Blake (Laura) Beeler, Miles City, MT; Sandra (Ken) Darling, Spencer, SD; Rebecca Urias, Scottsville, AZ; Michael Kelling, Elmore, OK; Tonya Stroud, Mitchell and Bradley Stroud, Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her father.

My mother absolutely loved geting her hair done by Marilyn (and Ilene) and when she could no longer endure getting her hair done, Marilyn helped her with a new wigs. Marilyn was a very strong and courageous woman..........strong attributes all of us strive for. May God wrap all of you in his arms during this time and comfort your souls. God Bless and God Speed to all of you.

Auntie Marilyn, No words can explain how much you will be missed. Our family has such wonderful memories of you. And my childhood and teenage years are so full of memories of the time spent with you and Uncle Euguene, Todd, Kristina, and Shelly. It brings a smile to my face while reminiscing of all the fun times I had with you and your family.

I am glad you are now in Our God's loving arms.

Prayers for peace, comfort and healing of hearts for Uncle Eugene, Todd, Kristina and Shelly. I am very sorry our family won't be able to attend the service. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
