Jennifer Jean Oldenkamp

June 6, 1980 - December 12, 2014

Jennifer Jean Oldenkamp was born on June 6, 1980 in Mitchell, SD to Randy and Sharilyn (Punt) Oldenkamp. She grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1998. She received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of MN and earned her Master’s in Occupational Therapy at St. Catherine University in Minneapolis. Jen’s big heart for children brought her to a career where she could support and assist special needs children and their families with a focus on children with autism. She was most recently employed as a Program Coordinator at St. David’s Center for Children. She also worked weekends as a Site Manager at the Gillette Hospital Ronald McDonald House.

Jen most loved spending time with her family and friends. Her niece and nephews were the joy of her life and she took every opportunity to spoil them. Jen was a Minnesota sports enthusiast.  She was an avid Gopher football fan and season ticket holder and also cheered for the Twins and Vikings. Her family and large circle of friends will most remember her for her big smile, sense of humor, energy, and spunk.

Grateful for having shared her life are her parents: Randy (Ardis) Oldenkamp of Mitchell, SD and Sharilyn (Mark) Grove of Cedar Falls, IA; two brothers: Kyle (Kelsi) Oldenkamp of Lincoln, NE and Kirby Oldenkamp (Courtney Diaferio, fiancée) of Denver, CO; and sister: Ashley (Tyler) Voorhees of Boulder, CO; niece and nephews: Avery and Jase Oldenkamp and Ivan Voorhees; maternal grandparents: Richard and Philomena Punt of Stickney, SD, paternal grandparents: Daryl and Hester Christensen of Madison, SD; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her cousin, Blaine Bennett.

Memorials can be sent to Sharilyn Grove at 1808 Quail Ridge Road, Cedar Falls, IA 50613.

Jen's Family- I was saddened to hear of Jen's passing. As I cared for her, I hoped she would get better so I could get to know her. I did feel like I got to know her a little bit, through you, her family. She was so beautiful on the outside and if she was anything like the rest of the family, she was for sure beautiful on the inside. She had a wonderful support system and she was definitely a fighter! I pray that you find peace with this illness that took Jen far too fast. Take care.

Jen was our joy at Children's Hospitals and Clinics. We are so grieved by this loss and cannot imagine the broken hearts of her parents, siblings, niece and nephews and friends and family. She was a ray of sunshine every time she worked on call for us. Her presence meant laughter, smiles, fun, and humor. We are so saddened and will miss her deeply. I have been praying for the family today. I received such comfort in prayer today knowing that she is in heaven. I have a card for the family and will send to Sharilyn.

Jen was a vital part of the ASDSS team at St. David's. Her commitment to the children she served was unwavering. We were blessed by her work, by her friendship and by her commitment to our mission. The St. David's family will miss her terribly.

I knew Jen through my long time friend Allie. Although I have only spent a handful of times with Jen, I had so much fun with her, especially at breezy point, and Mexico for allie's wedding. Jen was truly the life of the party and I had some great times laughing with her. I'll never forget her and I just wanted to let your family know that Jen's infectious personality reached a lot of people. My thoughts and prayers are with your family

My heart was immediately heart broken to hear of Jen's situation and health issues and then to hear the such devastating news and how fast it all happened seems like a dream. I can't imagine the grief the whole Oldenkamp family members are having to lose such a very bright, wonderful, uplifting inside and out person. My prayers go out to all of Jen's family and friends. Shar and Randy, I feel so blessed to be able to say I look forward to seeing such a beautiful smile from Jen again in heaven.

So many memories of our lives as young parents at the First Reformed. Jennifer was one of Ryan's and Chad's first friends in the nursery. Our hearts are filled with sadness and pain over the loss of such an amazing young woman. Please know we are sending our love and prayers to all of you...knowing that your strong faith will bring you peace and understanding in the days ahead.

I have such fond memories of Jen at slumber parties and birthdays when we were very young! She had such a fun personality and was kind to everyone. It's such a tragic loss. Peace be with Jen's loved ones.
