Marcella Koepke was born February 22, 1919 at Salem, SD to William and Anna (Osterhaus) Sabers. She grew up and attended St. Mary’s School in Salem. On January 25, 1940 she married Carl Koepke at Luverne, MN. They farmed north of Spencer. She resided in Spencer until losing her home to a tornado on May 28, 1998 and then moved to Mitchell. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Spencer Senior Citizen’s, Lakeside Cemetery Association and Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. She was a volunteer for Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and the Mitchell Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two daughters: Shirley (Vince) Assmus, Plankinton and Dona Kopischke, N. Mankato, MN; one brother, Willard Sabers, Riverside, CA; five grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1983, her son Roger, son-in-law Chuck, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, four sisters and six brothers.
