Robert Joseph Oberembt of Mitchell completed his earthly journey on April 2, 2021. Bob was born on February 28th, 1936, to William and Josephine Oberembt in Dimock, South Dakota, the 8th of 11 children. Bob was joined in marriage with Rosemary McBrayer on November 5th, 1958, in Ethan, South Dakota. They began their life together on a farm south of Mitchell then moved to Ethan where Bob worked for 29 years for Agland Co-op, first driving the farm-delivery gas truck and then working as manager. Bob and Rose raised four children. On January 28th, 2001, at the U of M Medical Center, Bob received a heart transplant which gave him a new lease on life. That fall he began driving the school bus; after 13 years, he retired fully. They sold their family home in Ethan and moved to Mitchell where they resided at the time of Bob’s death.
Bob was part of the Mitchell National Guard and the Ethan American Legion. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the community of Ethan. He served on the church council, as well as ushered, lectored, and sang in the choir; he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus. Bob volunteered for the Ethan fire department and served on the town board. Likewise, he supported the American Legion as a member plus several years as post commander. Bob and Rose enjoyed all that the Ethan Public Schools had to offer; in their retirement they enjoyed attending basketball games.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years as well as his four children: Pam (Louise Oven) Oberembt of Sioux Falls; Kevin (Brenda) Oberembt of Cave Creek, Arizona; Troy Oberembt of Sioux Falls; and Tara (Ericka) Obner of Omaha. Bob and Rose have 10 grandchildren: Ericka and Clark Oberembt; Becky, Rick and Jesse Boyd; Calli Oberembt; Travis Morrison; Tricia Bruynes; Joannis and Josephine Obner. Bob and Rose also have 6 great-grandchildren: Jordan Anfinson, Charlotte and Elizabeth Oberembt, Clyde and Weston Boyd, and Coen Bruynes. Bob is survived by three siblings: Bill Oberembt, Sr. Doris Oberembt, and Elaine Kirsch.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Sr. Maryann Oberembt, James Oberembt, Aletha Schnieder, Sr. Carol Oberembt, Bernice Roth, Rose Simon, and Imelda Trautman.
Peace be with you.
