Robert Overbay, 86, of Mitchell, SD, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday, February 15 at Bittner Funeral Chapel. A graveside service with military honors will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, February 16 at American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Robert Overbay was born September 21, 1934, in Johnson City, Tennessee, to Thomas and Louise Overbay. On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, Robert Overbay, loving husband and father to two children passed away. On March 12, 1967, he married Lee Ann Barnum. They raised two children Kimberlee Kaye (Satterlee) and Thomas Eugene.
Robert had a passion for American History. Every road trip taken included stopping to read the roadside marker and usually a short history lesson. He was an enthusiastic sports fan of the Southeast Conference. As a young man he served as an airman during the Korean War in the medical division. Robert was known for his sense of humor, love of family, and devotion to his country. His kind and compassionate spirit will always be remembered.
He is survived by his wife, LeeAnn; daughter, Kimberlee Kay (Mike) Saterlee, son, Thomas Eugene; grandchildren, Haylee Huke, Maggie Grace, Shane Thomas Overbay; brother, Bill; brother-in-law, Eugene Barnum; and sisters-in-law, Kay Barnum and Sue Overbay.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Louise Overbay; brother, Jim; mother and father in-law Blanche and Eugene Barnum; and son-in-law, Pete Huke.
