Roy Ziegler, 91, of Mitchell, SD, died Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, February 5, 2021 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the Church. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Roy J. Ziegler was born November 28, 1929 to Joseph and Columbia (Keller) Ziegler in Trail City, SD. Roy attended Timber Lake High School and graduated in 1947. After high school, he was drafted to the US Air Force. After his honorable discharge, Roy continued his education attaining his Bachelor of Science from Northern State University in 1957. He then earned his Master of Science in 1960 from Northern State University.
On February 2, 1953 Roy was united in marriage to Janet Crawford at the FE Warren Air Force Chapel in Cheyenne, WY.
Roy began his teaching career in McLaughlin, SD from 1957 to 1965. He later was the Assistant Director of Vocational Education in Pierre and the Director of Mitchell Vocational-Technical School.
Roy was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, American Vocational Association, South Dakota Vocational Association, American Legion, and Epsilon Pe Tau Educational Fraternity.
Roy is survived by his sons, Danny (Doris) of Spearfish, SD, William (Barbara) of Sheridan, WY, and Patrick (Tena) of Mitchell, SD; daughters, Lynn (Tom) Lasser of Fridley, MN and Kathy (Tony) Chalhoub of St. Peter, MN; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and brother, Claude Ziegler of Mobridge, SD.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet; parents; brothers, Peter Ziegler and Joe Ziegler; and sisters, Mary Bagewell and Victoria Senger.
Uncle Roy and I stayed in touch these past couple of years.
I really enjoyed our telephone conversations and have fond memories of the reminiscing we talked about.
