Jerald “Jerry” Burke, 44, of Plankinton, SD, died Monday, February 1, 2021 at his home in Plankinton due to a heart attack. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, February 4, 2021 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton. Graveside service will be 3:00 PM Thursday at Esterly Cemetery in rural Florence, SD. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Church with a 6:30 PM Scripture Service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Jerald “Jerry” Robert Burke was born on October 24, 1976 to Ronald and Janice Burke in Watertown, SD. He attended school in Waubay, and grew up on the family farm south of Waubay where Jerry farmed with his father. After his father passed away in 1998, Jerry and Janice then moved to Plankinton.
Jerry worked for Johnson Sanitation for numerous years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Jerry loved spending time with his family, road trips with his mom, and playing darts, cards, and board games. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.
Jerald is survived by his mother, Janice; siblings, Mary (Todd) Borstad, Julie (Al) Stockman, Mike (Christine) Burke, Karen (fiance Luigi Calciano) Bloom, and Chris (special friend Donita Dolen) Burke; and 23 nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ronald; sister, Dawn Odle; grandparents, Robert and Luella Rickard, Tom and Mary Burke; nephew, Jacob Burke; and stepfather, Terry Jones.
