Obituary

Robert McCord, 83, of White Lake, SD, died Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD.  A private, family funeral service will take place at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Robert “Bob” E. McCord was born on March 12, 1937 to George and Barbara (Wolf) McCord in Stickney, SD. He attended country school. Bob was drafted to the army in 1961.

Bob married Joan (Niles) on November 23, 1960 in Plankinton, SD.

After serving the Army in Fairbanks, AK, he was honorably discharged in 1963, and returned to White Lake. Upon returning, he worked for the Farmers Coop, and later began farming.

He served on several boards in the community including the South Dakota State Training School and ASCS Office.  He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in White Lake. Bob was devoted to being Santa’s helper for over forty-five years.

Robert is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, Eugene (Donny Baca) McCord of Las Vegas, NV, and James (Stephanie) McCord of White Lake, SD; daughter, Caroline Mild Kahre (Sweden foreign exchange student); four granddaughters, Sidney, Josie, Rylee, and Alli McCord; brother, Lyle (Lois) McCord of White Lake, SD; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Niles, Kathy McCord, and Margie Fagen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister, Jean Ann, and brother, Gary.

My thoughts and prayers are with Bob’s family . Bob and I were great friends due to pheasant hunting at his farm. It was the most relaxing week of the year staying with Bob, Joan, Eugene and James. God bless you and RIP. Love you Bob.

That was many moons ago riding horses through Bob’s yard and seeing him manage the operation from his golf cart. So tough to go through the loss, thinking of you guys as you say goodbye to husband, dad and grandpa.
