Jean Germain “Jack” Kinsella, of Mitchell, SD and Cottonwood, AZ passed away on (location/date of death.) He was born on January 26, 1923 in Paris, France to American parents James T. and Marie Jeanne (Magne) Kinsella.
Jack lived in France and Italy and then moved to New York City with his family in 1930. In 1935 they moved to Bismarck, ND. After graduating from Bismarck High School in 1942, and starting junior college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, going into the service of his choice.
Jack served as a member of a flight crew of the 16th Combat Squadron, 4th Combat Cargo Group flying C-47 and C-46 cargo planes in India, Burma and over “The Hump” (Himalayas) to China, supporting the British 5th Army and the Flying Tigers at Kumming, China. At the conclusion of the war, he was honorably discharged at Camp McCoy, WI. Jack was recalled to active duty during the Korean War, serving on flight crews testing experimental transport aircraft including the XC-123A. He was honorably discharged in 1953 at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida at the end of the Korean War.
On November 7, 1946 he married Audrey Marie Normann in Bismarck, ND. From that union, sons James N., Thomas J., Steven R., and Jean G. Jr. “Jay” were born. Jack and his family moved from Bismarck to Mitchell, SD in 1965.
Jack was associated with the Cretex Companies, Inc. for 40 years, primarily through North Dakota Concrete Products Co. and South Dakota Concrete Products Co. He retired in 1987 as production manager and sales engineer of prestressed and precast concrete products. He was a past member and president of the Mitchell Exchange Club, a 50-year member of the Mitchell Elks, a member of the VFW Post 2750 of Mitchell for more than 60 years and a 64-year member of the American Legion Post 18 of Mitchell.
Following Audrey’s death in August of 2013, Jack moved to Cottonwood, AZ in September of 2014 to be with family. There he met Yvonne Conroy, and they were married on April 1, 2017.
Survivors include his wife Yvonne; sons Steven (Ann) of St. Paul, MN and Jay of Jerome, AZ; stepdaughters Debbie Kloor, Nancy Bailey and Susie Pinto; grandchildren James Andrew, Margaret Marie, Jason Keith (Emily) and Nikole Marie (Jean Paul Anderson); three great grandchildren; and brother Yvon (Curley) and his friend Betty Salo of Cottonwood, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Audrey of 66 years, and his sons James and Thomas.
Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery with full military rites attended by the American Legion’s chaplain in Mitchell, South Dakota. A memorial service will be held at Bittner Funeral Home 10:30 AM Saturday, September 28, 2019.
