Roger Berggren, 55, of Sioux Falls formerly of Mitchell, SD, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at Walsburg Cemetery in Leonardville, KS.
Roger Martin Berggren was born on March 24th, 1969, to father Ralph and mother Jacqueline.
As a boy, Roger was a member of the Boy Scouts, Troop 246, in Mitchell, South Dakota and was an active member of New Home Lutheran church, where his dad was pastor and his mom directed the choir.
Roger attended school in Mitchell where he was active in the music program. Roger was a member of the Star of Indiana drum and bugle corps from 1986-1989, marched in the University of South Dakota’s marching band, and earned a bachelor’s degree in music education. Roger was a music teacher in Winner, SD and led the hornline with the Governaire’s Drum and Bugle corps in the 1990’s.
Roger’s career in information systems began when Gateway Computers opened in Sioux Falls and took an interview with his college friend. As a young professional, Roger would work the phones as a computer tech at night and take Microsoft Certification classes during the day.
Roger worked at Gateway 2000, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of MN, and eventually at CCC Information Systems.
Roger enjoyed building computers and video games, riding his Harley Davidson, shooting sports, cars and tinkering. He was a devoted dog owner and was known throughout his neighborhood as Rocky’s human.
Roger is survived by his mother, Jacqueline, and brothers, Richard of Golden Valley, MN and Paul of Redwood Falls, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph.
